Great chat! You talked about the scary qualities of The Shining.. one of the most unnerving scenes in that is when Jack and Danny are talking and Danny is asking him if he'd ever hurt them.. that whole scene where you know that Jack has already started to slip, and he's talking calmly but with an edge of paranoia and malice that you can feel at work in his mind, as if he's talking whilst drunk which of course is a cornerstone to his relapse and collapse.. such an electric performance and an unsettling scene. | often think what was going through Danny Lloyd's mind as he was acting with Nicholson half the time.. It's interesting too the notion of not being too verbose. I get the feeling there's a tendency with writers to try and get what you have in your head to the detriment of the screenplay as a functional item. I tend to think that you can save yourself a lot of heartache by deliberately focusing on it as a blueprint. It's for certain that unless you're directing as well then it's so unlikely that it's going to look as you saw it in your mind's eye, and it's best to get over that as soon as you can so that if you get lucky enough t have written a piece that gets made, that you stand a chance of appreciating and enjoying the movie.
Great Alex, though be great for you to edit your talking a bit, maybe 30%. That would give more time for your guests wisdom.
I thought Michael Mcdowell wrote Beetlejuice? A fine collaboration anyway.
Boondock Saints is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. So yes, congrats -- you made a movie, Troy -- but it's also so hilariously bad that it will live on forever, as though it were The Room of bad Reservoir Dogs ripoffs.
5 years ago. Loved being on this show!
Sounds like my story. 1.3 Million down the drain. Budget kept going up because they stuck us between rock and hard place. Had too much in to quit prior to qc and completing deliverables in post. Hired oscar winning producer for 6 figures who was sales agent, then after 2 years of no distribution deal...(because they don't sell movies for that budget) sales agent called and said yeah, I got offer from lions gate...150,000 for 25 year license. I said huh??? Then he said we'll my company is middleman distributor...and the contract laughable. 150k marketing off top. So he would take Lions Gate payment and I lose my movie and they license global 50/50. I'm just getting started on this story. So sorry he went through this. My heart is so broken too. I thought these guys were our friends. It's awful.
It would have been pretty damn bold to not send Huge Jackman back in time haha
Wonderful and inspiring interview. Thank you so much!
funny glad i moved to italy haha
Too much talking over each other
Few actors work as hard as Lance. Fantastic contribution to media and art.
Great interview. I’m brand new to filmmaking here in Philly and this was helpful
Haha actors have this love me love thing. I get that! Some times they bring that to the screen obviously. Great interview. Reaĺly liked it. Thank you
I feel like the Doc was cut together in a way to paint a negative light. I hope bro learned to keep your out for supposed friends riding your success and looking for a come up off your name.

Simon’s dad, producer Jud Kinberg, was the real talent in the family. Lil’ Simon just grew up a spoiled rich kid & got lucky being placed with the right directors, like Doug Liman, who knew how to plus his wonky material. It’s not a stretch to say he single handedly sunk one of the greatest action franchises ever; X-Men .. & he’s done it twice. Somebody in his bubble needs to tell him the jig is up .. we know he’s a hack.
Sry but Doug Liman who proved time and time again that he's a very talented and innovative action filmmaker is not even comparable to this guy who directed one movie which was so bad that it killed a franchise. That's ridiculous.
@@maxpayne232 Yeah I agree. I think you misunderstood
@@juniorjangles7655 right. Sry
I liked the brief bits where Weiland was allowed to talk. :/
Dude could never crack the code for Dark Phoenix. And don’t ever direct a movie again neither
Question: I have a script (and sequel) should I try to make a short to generate interest? Or try to get a manager. I don’t need a career as a writer as I have a career - But my fever dream is to see this on the screen.
Why do you guys like Sleepless in Seattle? I watched it and didn’t feel anything special.
one of my least favorite human beings, hes responsible for screwing up the phoenix story TWICE and everything he is HEAVILY involved is (almost everytime) a piece of trash. dunno how is it possible that he is still allowed to work on movies
This guy is a legend! Author of so many masterpieces like the second Fantastic Four, X-Men Dark Phoenix, XXX: State of the Union, X Men Apocalipse, X-Men Last Stand. Every Marvel fan loves him!
*Lost
Welcome back
The Man, The Myth, The Legend! Good to see you back Alex. Been looking forward to this.
Welcome back! I was worried about you, really glad to see you back 🙂
I rock with this show🎙🎥
Another great interview. I'd love to see Alex interview Steven Pressfield.
Me too. 😆
This was very informative and helps me with working on my project.
“Dinner and a movie to get l:;;$” *crickets*
Noooice!!!! Did you just nooice my noooice???
Noooice!
Inglorious Bastards opening scene is actually about 20 minutes long. The script is 20+ pages just for that scene.
The Wachowskis sold the Matrix script in 1994. It certainly wasn't exactly the script that years later made it to the screen, but to pretend that they stole their idea from Dark City is silly.
@@Michael-bd4uv is it really Michael? Is it, really silly…?
As of this typing, Marc is the only person to direct a black woman to a Best Actress Oscar win, with Halle Berry in Monster's Ball. Also, for a little over 20 years, with the same win, he was the only person to direct a woman of colour to a Best Actress Oscar win. Not anymore though, as of the Oscars before last when Michelle Yeoh won, and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert joined him.
You clearly cancelled yourself by being an entitled raging A-hole after HW gave you a big break. Overnight ironically is a masterpiece while BS is just a meh film.
How many kids did he diddle do you think?
What a great idea. How will this compare to Omoletto presently on RUclips? By the way, even the big production houses of the 40s and 50s made short films. The showed them before the feature or in between a double features at the cinema. I’ve seen some great “classic” shorts.
2 years later: I am so glad Distribber didn't turn out to be Lehmen Brothers and become a sign that everything would collapse, but it was a real good question at the time.
Insane story. WOW.
I love that this interview exists! Men in Black was directed so well, one of my favorite films ever
This was very helpful and insightful. Thank you for doing this interview. It’s a complex world we live in and it’s extremely competitive. Let’s see what happens.
It´s not sarcastic! hahahahaha the relation of Nicholas cage´s character to Mr Bob Mcgee in adaptation! Thanks man!!! The Mcguffin!!!!!
I just love this Thomas Jane...
Very prescient predictions of Netflix
I am sooo pumped to hear about the 11 minute rule. In my screenplay, I need to get the reader to page 11 where the hook gets set. The 1st 10 pages are necessary backstory that IMHO would suffer if done as a flashback.
I still have hope one day a Blooodsport product can be made. Imagine a series based on master Tanaka fighting in the original kumite...
What are the most expensive budget items in bringing a film (outside the marvel universe - I.e. for your tribe) to the screen?
What happened to Film Powered? The site seems to be on hiatus
i think it's safe to say that the state of indie film for women is pretty much identical to that of men.
That bad?!?
